I would love a guide for how people can try out Cardano without using real ADA.

In particular, I haven’t seen an answer on these forums regarding the best way for people to interact with a testnet or launch their own testnet with available fake ADA:

How to connect to testnet node and do transactions?

I have build the **Cardano SL ** from the source code.Also then i have run the command nix-build -A connectScripts.mainnetWallet -o connect-to-mainnet then ./connect-to-mainnet. After doing this my node is start connecting to mainnet. But how can i verify my node is connected, and also how can i perform transaction in testnet or create new account through my java application?

Is there a testnet?

What is the best aproach to testing cardano for my application? is there a testnet or a way to run a local network? or the only way to run cardano is on mainnet? what is staging? is another network? or is mainnet too? lots of questions haha.

Is there an ADA testnet similar to the Ropsten net in ethereum?

The only thing I cpuld find is https://tada.iohk.io/ but it is bugged or was deprecated.
