Unable to register for voting. ("wallet not eligible")

Hi All,

I have been trying in the last months to register for voting, but it’s just not working for me.
The catalyst app keeps throwing the error : “wallet not eligible, your QR code or registration code is not linked to any known wallet for this voting round. Please check if you’re using the most recent registration and retry” and I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. I have already tried (multiple times) to remove the catalyst app and reinstall, but the issue remains. I have enough ada on that wallet address (over 5k ada). Tried it through with the Daedalus wallet and the Eternl wallet, but both have the same result. Does anyone have any tips for me?
Thanks.

hmmm I just read somewhere on this forum, that hardware wallets are not always allowed for voting… my ADA is on a ledger nano X… Could this be the issue?

the link you provided directs me to : <scam link removed> … I don’t trust this tbh.

Hello @JerryZ

I see you are getting response from some fake support account. Don’t click their link, it’s a scam.

Always remember to instantly block ANYONE that asks for your wallet passphrase.

Thanks for confirming, I got suspicious when my passphrase was asked…

No, not really. Those conversations were about other votes. Registration for Catalyst hasn’t been a problem with Ledgers for a very long time.

But that doesn’t sound good. You should not register that many times. It will just lead to chaos.

Later registrations overwrite earlier ones and the QR codes of the earlier ones are then useless. But only up to the voting power snapshot (which was on 18 June https://docs.projectcatalyst.io/current-fund/fund-basics/fund-timeline). Registrations after that deadline have no effect at all for the current voting, only for future ones.

So, you now have to find the last QR code you generated and successfully registered with one of the wallet apps before 18 June, 21:45 UTC. Only that QR code will allow you to vote. All others are either overwritten by that last one or were too late.

Hi, thank you for your reply.
I do understand that the last QR code will be the one that you should use.
The thing is that I have never been able to succesfully register for voting. That is why I keep trying.
So I don’t have a QR code that has ever worked.
I always get the “wallet not eligible” warning,

Have you tried before the deadline?

How do you know that it was not successful? How long have you waited after the registration transaction? It is never immediate, the Catalyst system only did intermediate snapshots every couple of hours before that 18 June final snapshot. That’s why the “not eligible” warning told you to wait 24 hours.

In any case, now, only one of the QR codes you have will work and that is the last one you did before the deadline. None before that and none after that can work at all.

hmmm, I’m starting to feel that I just don’t understand the process.
So you should register for voting before the deadline. But you don’t use the QR code you receive until the voting round has started? is that how this works ?
Cause I registered for voting and I thought that you should immediately scan the code in Catalyst.
…to be ready for the next voting round , so to say…

Yes.

You can scan it immediately.

But it takes some time until it shows you your voting weight. (In previous rounds, it actually showed nothing until the voting snapshot, but now they are doing intermediate snapshots, but also only every couple of hours. Immediately after registration, it will always show “not eligible”. That’s why it says “wait a day”.)

Thank you, I’ll give it another try at the next round. (need to register again though, I didn’t keep the QR, as I believed it didn’t work… )

@JerryZ Heya. Before next fund - come back to us here and let’s ensure we get you sorted! In fact - we can attempt to see how you can do after this voting round is over. So in couple of weeks - we can try to see if you register, produce QR code - and then see what your voting app will say at the time. Because we’ll be able to troubleshoot with you well in advance this way. Apologies for all the trouble. I’m confident we’ll get you over the line.

I am having the same exact issue, and I am not sure that I fully understand the explanations given here.

Is the reason I am getting the “wallet not eligible…” message because I registered after the voting deadline for this fund?

If yes, will I be able to use the QR code and pin I received today for the next round or do I have to get a new QR code and pin for each fund?

Yes.

Yes, exactly that.

Thank you for the quick response!

Hi @HeptaSean and @dannyribar : I was now able to register with the QR I created on July 4th… no problem what so ever. Thank you both for your help.
