Important Update: Cardano OBFT hard fork successfully completed!

The Cardano OBFT hard fork has been successfully completed!

Cardano recently underwent a mainnet hard fork (=software protocol update) on 20-02-2020, during epoch 176, to pave the way for the “Shelley” mainnet release. We have now entered the “OBFT” era.
OBFT stands for “Ouroboros Byzantine Fault Tolerant”.

Please note: ada holders DO NOT need to take any action during or after the hard fork. No new ada coins are made and/or cannot be claimed. Beware of scams/scammers, or anyone telling you otherwise!

Charles Hoskinson Cardano Update and Surprise AMA 16/02/2020

On Sunday February 16th 2020, Charles Hoskinson sat down for a surprise AMA, where he discussed the importance of the OBFT hard fork as well as the Byron reboot. He also spoke about the recent donation of ada that IOHK made to the University of Wyoming. Hyperlinks to AMA questions are listed below.

Quick Summary:

  • Now that the OBFT hard fork has been completed, the Byron reboot is expected to be shipped to the end user in March.

  • The Haskell testnet will actually occur as two testnets. The first will be the migration testnet which will allow stake pools from the ITN to migrate to the Haskell side. The second will be the balance check testnet.

  • IOHK recently made a donation of ada to the University of Wyoming to begin a blockchain laboratory and curriculum. The focus of this lab will be developing hardware and training programmers in Plutus.

  • Identity, metadata, oracles, multi-assets, and rich smart contracts are all being explored for Goguen.

IOHK Blog: Important Cardano Development Milestone - New Cardano node, explorer backend, and web API released

Today marks the culmination of considerable effort by IOHK’s Cardano team: the release of a new Cardano Haskell implementation. This implementation consists of two main components: the Cardano Node and the Cardano Explorer Backend and Web API.
Over the past 18 months, IOHK has been building a new architectural foundation that will not only prepare us for the upcoming releases for Shelley – and, thereafter, Goguen – but open the door to third-party developers and enterprise adoption.
